Nicollet Island/East Bank neighborhood comprises Nicollet Island on the Mississippi River just east of downtown Minneapolis and the portion of the eastern riverbank located northeast from Central Avenue. The “East Bank” portion of the neighborhood is commonly referred to as Old St. Anthony, as this area was the location of the town of St. Anthony, which became Minneapolis in 1872.
Nicollet Island is a beautiful urban getaway for the lucky few homeowners residing there. The island has not seen much commercial development, and other than the Nicollet Island Inn and Pavillion and the private high school, DeLaSalle, the island, true to form, remains unaffected by the active goings on on the nearby landmark Hennepin Avenue Bridge. Those who call Nicollet Island home find themselves in an urban oasis. Dense foliage and obscure access creates an unexpected guest: privacy.
