CFG's Favorite Things: Fall Recommendations
Summer may technically be here for a few more weeks, but Fall is in the air. In honor of the changing season we’re sharing our favorite Fall things and our highly anticipated Autumnal Outings.
Things to Get Absorbed In
The coziest fall show Only Murders in the Building is finally back on Hulu, just in time for sweater season.
Guillermo del Toro’s new Frankenstein adaptation is hitting select theaters in October, and Netflix in November. While we’re waiting we may revisit other historical horror films, like Nosferatu, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and del Toro’s own Crimson Peak.
After a summer of lake swimming, Cindy is cozying up with the 1955 classic Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
For a heartwarming listen (or watch) we highly recommend the new podcast Good Hang with Amy Pohler.
Things to Savor
Cindy’s favorite banana bread is the perfect snack, whether it’s an afterschool treat for a toddler or a surprise for a college student.
Cozy weather calls for cozy soups, like homemade ramen.
If you’re looking for a new game day meal, may we suggest the best oven chicken wings, a hearty chili, or blondies studded with caramel shards?
Fall is for specialty coffee. We love to make a Gingerbread Spice Latte, or to pick up a seasonal drink from a local shop (like the Pumpkin Spice Lawsuit from Five Watt Coffee.)
Things to Do
Tis’ the season- to get started on Halloween costumes!
The Fall Colors are going to be spectacular this year. We recommend checking the DNR’s Fall Color Map and then heading up to the Superior Hiking Trail.
There’s plenty of Fall Festivals to celebrate. Some we’re most looking forward to are Owamni Falling Water Festival, Art Attack, the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo, and cheering on runners for the Twin Cities Marathon.
The Minnesota Wild start playing on October 9th, and we will be glued to our TVs that evening.
Things to Get Cozy With
Candles can make the environment. We love the beeswax candles from local company Slow Burn, and the Night Blooming Jasmine and Damask Rose candle from Flamingo Estate.
The spooky and artistic board game Mysterium is perfect for Fall game night.
If you’re hosting a dinner party, you might be interested in some beautiful dishware, like the new Matisse Collection from cult favorite pottery company East Fork.
