What makes her tick? Meet the Team - Q & A with Cindy Froid

We recently sat down with Cindy to ask what life is like for this working mom outside of the office. Here’s a bit of inside scoop on what makes this girl tick:

Q: With a busy work schedule, and kiddos at home, what is your morning routine?

A: Starting my morning with the right mindset is really important, so I start by reading a daily passage from Mark Nepo’s Book of Awakening, then make myself a cup of “potion” as we call it at home. I don’t drink coffee, so this is a cup of hot water packed with fresh mint leaves and as much fresh ginger root as I can handle without burning my throat! I will often also add a half lemon. Ginger is a great detoxifier, and I’m totally addicted to this concoction. I drink it all day long and before bed every night as well. In between getting our two boys off to school,  it’s a 3.5 mile walk around Calhoun with my chocolate lab Louie. These days have been on snowshoes across the lake rather than around the lake. It’s so peaceful. No ear buds or phone calls at this time. Just the sounds of nature. Very calming before I dig into email.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

A: Most people don’t know that I love scuba diving. I actually have my advanced open water certification. Wreck dives, deep water dives, night dives, I love it all. Throw me in the ocean and I’m in heaven. This spring my oldest son is getting his beginner certification, so we will go diving together in Roatan, Honduras.

Q: Sounds like you enjoy traveling?

A: I work to travel. After college I backpacked through Europe for a summer and have been addicted ever since. I actually just returned from a little sabbatical in France. I brushed up on my French with two dear friends at a wonderful school in southern France, then spent time by myself in Paris. It was a great experience, and each time I’m there I discover a new favorite spot.

Q: Any guilty pleasures?

A: Chocolate croissants. They are my weakness. There is nothing better than a chocolate croissant with yogurt and fresh juice for breakfast. I’d say the best croissants available here would be at either Rose Street Patisserie or Honey and Rye Bakery. At home I buy the frozen croissants from Trader Joe’s and let them rise overnight. It’s the closest you’ll get to the real deal from Paris.

Q: Who is your favorite rocker?

A: I came of age during the Grunge era, so my all time favorite group is Pearl Jam, and of course I’m obsessed with the music of Eddie Vedder. I love his solo work from Ukelele Songs and his original work for the soundtrack from Into the Wild. He’s an incredible philanthropist as well. Amazing talent.

Q: What are your thoughts on turning 49 this year?

A: I’m grateful to be turning 49! After a breast cancer diagnosis in 2013, I vowed to never ever complain about another birthday. Each one is a gift. My perspective on aging, and life has changed a lot because I had to deal with  cancer. I have let go of a lot and learned to just take each day as it comes. I really want to be a good example for my kids about living for today, and not getting attached to certain expectations or outcomes. I just want to be a good mom, wife and daughter (and granddaughter!), be a strong leader in our community, be a reliable advisor for my clients, and continue learning and having fun each day. That’s what it’s about.
